Innovative Employment Solutions (INVEST)

Innovative Employment Solutions (INVEST) provides opportunities and breakthroughs that eliminate barriers to employment for LA County Adult Probationers. Our key goal for this population is to increase access to employment, education, training, and support services.

These services are significant for individuals with challenges that limit their access to gainful employment. This especially includes individuals involved in the justice system which makes the probation population one of the top priorities for DEO. We have professionally trained staff ready to help individuals returning from incarceration successfully re-enter the community. This is a collaborative partnership between DEO, LA County Probation, and the LA County Office of Diversion and Reentry (ODR).

PROGRAM FEATURES:

  • Basic or Individualized Career Services
  • Job Training Services
    • In-Class and On-the-Job
  • Follow-up and Retention Services

CRDF Career Center:

WDACS, in partnership with the Sheriff (LASD), is implementing a Career Center at Century Regional Detention Facility (CRDF), the County’s women’s jail, to provide inmates with coordinated and comprehensive pre and post-release workforce development services, intensive trauma-informed case management, and specialized career pathway training in high growth industries to secure employment opportunities for women exiting CRDF and facilitate a successful reintegration back into society. The first L.A. County Jail Based Job Center was located at L.A. County Sheriff’s Pitchess Detention Facility – South.

Prison2Employment (P2E):

The goal of this initiative is to improve employment outcomes for justice involved individuals by establishing and maintaining a partnership between workforce and corrections agencies

The Prison2Employment Program was created out of the Prison to Employment Initiative which was part of the Governor’s 2018 Budget Proposal. At the local level, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) along with LA County Probation are key partners of the seven (7) Workforce Development Boards that comprise the Los Angeles Basin Regional Planning Unit.

This program ultimately seeks to a build and sustain a pipeline by which all members of the community that have been involved in the justice system, feel welcome coming to one stop career centers and are sure that they will receive help that is relevant to their specific needs upon arrival. In order to address the specific needs of this often-underserved population the program has components that allow for individual services, supportive services, transitional subsidized employment and system navigation and support from individuals with lived experience.
