Careers for a Cause (C4C):

We launched the Careers for a Cause (C4C) Social Services Training Program to prepare you to serve the homeless population. The program prepares you for a career in social services, matching you with homeless service providers for employment at the end of the program.

The eight-week program offers you career exploration, assessment, job shadowing, skills training, on-the-job coaching and job retention support. In addition, you receive wrap-around support services and a stipend to help you graduate and land your dream job in the social services field.

We are currently recruiting LA County residents to apply for our ongoing training cohorts in partnership with local area community colleges.

Training details:

  • Classes will take place in person at a local community college (dates vary by cohort)
  • Attendance is required Monday - Friday (hours vary by cohort)
  • Individuals with past or current lived homelessness experience will be given priority

Deadline to apply:

  • Los Angeles Pierce College cohort (Application closes Nov. 17)
  • Rio Hondo College cohort (Application closes Nov. 17)

Aero-Flex:

This apprenticeship program is aimed at engineering and manufacturing across California. Aero-Flex is a highly successful career pathway program that uses pre-apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship to develop workforce pipelines for the aerospace industry. 

The employer-centric earn and lean model was designed to provide the ability for the employer to ‘Flex’ the curriculum to customize training for each participant. 

Since the program’s inception, many career pathways have been developed for technicians and engineers, including the first Aerospace Engineering apprenticeship in the nation requiring a degree to be registered with the DOL.

Countywide Youth Bridges Program (CYBP):

Works with at-risk and disconnected youth. Our focus is on creating a career path that leads to full-time employment with the County of Los Angeles. We offer supportive services and personal enrichment training to help secure and ensure your success as a LA County employee.

CYBP uses a three-step program for your success. Completion of our 120 hours in our Youth@Work program; followed by a one-year paid internship in a LA County position, through our Youth Worker Training Program; and finally, the opportunity to compete for a full-time position with LA County.

These steps not only prepare you for a major career opportunity but it gives you access to a brighter future and a more productive life.

HIRE:LAX:

This program provides local residents access to enroll in a comprehensive, construction apprenticeship preparation program offered by select public agencies or community partners. 

The pre-apprenticeship MC3 certification training includes soft skill development, work readiness mentoring and participant assistance. HIRE:LAX provides participants with an opportunity to meet and interview with construction unions and select a specialization throughout the training course to ensure that that they will successful establish a career in the construction trades.

Upon completion, program graduates are competitively positioned for placement consideration on a Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) construction project through its contractors and local craft unions. Veterans and women are strongly encouraged to participate in the program. This is a program by DEO in partnership with Los Angeles World Airports, Parsons, Flintridge and construction labor unions to provide a construction industry-based cohort program. Home Visitor Apprenticeship Program:

In collaboration with Antelope Valley Community College and Early Care & Education Pathways to Success (ECEPTS), the Home Visitor Apprenticeship program will develop culturally responsive, well-trained professionals to work as community-based home visitors. 

Apprentices complete six college courses and on-the-job training in childcare, community outreach and home visiting. At the completion of the apprenticeship, apprentices will have a stackable DOL and CA DAS recognized certification. The college credits the apprentices earned will also qualify them for LA County entry level job opportunities. The program is 19 months in length and will include 20-24 students.


Workforce Initiative Now-LA (WIN-LA):

Workforce Initiative Now-LA is LA Metro’s workforce development program with a focus on careers in the transportation industry.

It is a groundbreaking initiative that establishes career opportunities in construction and non-construction including operations, maintenance, administration, and professional services within LA Metro and throughout the transportation industry.

The program supports participants in areas such as life skills development, skill set enhancement, and educational attainment services. WIN-LA also increases the resources needed for training and placement of “Hard to Fill” positions in our transportation industry.
