Careers for a Cause
DEO, in partnership with Los Angeles Southwest College, launched the Careers for a Cause Social Services Training Program (C4C) to train individuals in serving the homeless population. The program prepares students for a career in social services, matching these individuals with homeless service providers for employment at the end of the program. Careers for a Cause was developed for 2nd District Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, in partnership with St. Joseph’s Center and the South Los Angeles Transit Empowerment Zone (SLATE-Z) to expand the County’s homeless services industry. The eight-week program offers career exploration, assessment, job shadowing, skills training, on-the-job coaching and job retention support. In addition, students in the program receive wrap-around support services and a stipend.

HireUP
DEO, in partnership with multiple local agencies, launched the HireUP High Road Career Pathway Training Program focused on training job-ready adults who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Los Angeles County. The program provides individuals with paid employment skills training & wrap around services through multi-agency collaboration. Upon successful completion, participants are placed into high-growth career pathways providing full-time, unsubsidized employment with Union partners. The HireUP career pathway training program is open to individuals who are work-ready and experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness.

Century Regional Detention Facility Career Center
DEO, in partnership with the Sheriff (LASD), is implementing a Career Center at Century Regional Detention Facility (CRDF), the County’s women’s jail in Lynwood, to provide inmates with coordinated and comprehensive pre and post-release workforce development services, intensive trauma-informed case management, and specialized career pathway training in high growth industries to secure employment opportunities for women exiting CRDF and facilitate a successful reintegration back into society. The first L.A. County Jail Based Job Center was located at L.A. County Sheriff’s Pitchess Detention Facility – South.

Film and Digital Media Technology
DEO, in partnership with Venice Arts, launched the Film + Digital Media Career Pathways Program in 2021 to create viable career pathways in television, film digital and creative services for youth. The pilot program focuses on providing hands-on experience in Film + Digital Media to youth from low-income, foster, homeless, justice-involved and LGBTQ+ backgrounds.

Electric Bus Manufacturing Technology
DEO, in partnership with Proterra, launched a customized 9-week training program for advanced electric bus manufacturing technology. This historic public-private partnership paved the way for the graduation of our inaugural cohort of students on January 22, 2021. This trailblazing program represents the future of LA County’s workforce and our commitment to train local residents and support green technology jobs of the future. Help us build a Green L.A. Aircraft Fabrication and Assembly
DEO, in partnership with Northrop Grumman, launched a customized training program to train individuals for entry level assembly / manufacturing positions throughout Los Angeles County. Under this program, students take four different classes that are worth 23 units of college credit. These four classes are: Blueprints, Aerospace Structures, Composites and Aerospace Ethics. All of these classes are accelerated and completed in 16 weeks .They are taught how to work in groups and are expected to complete several large projects that illustrate their understanding of production and working in a precise environment. Students who complete this program are equipped to gain employment in a growing employment sector, with strong wage and career advancement opportunities.

Solar Panel Technology
DEO created the Solar Panel Technology Training Program to train participants in manufacturing / assembly principles associated with solar and green technology. The course work consists of trainings in: electrical theory, manufacturing principles, blueprint reading, assembly / design, OSHA safety certification, brazing / welding, etc. Students who complete this program are equipped with the knowledge and skill sets required to gain employment within the manufacturing and green technology sectors, which offer a strong wage an career advancement opportunities.
